Pack the House For Texas Tech
by David Peterson
Wednesday, March 03, 2010
When the Frogs took on Sam Houston State during opening weekend, the Frogs broke an attendance record for a weekend series. Nearly 9,000 fans came through the turnstiles and a large portion of that number was students. By some estimates, nearly one-third of that number were students. The reason I bring that up is Spring Break starts the weekend of March 12-14 and we need to find a way to fill those seats.

Last season the Frogs entered Spring Break as the #11 team in the country, but would drop 2 of 3 to Minnesota at home. Minnesota turned out to be a good squad playing the in the NCAA Regionals, but they were games the Frogs should not have lost.

Put yourself in the players shoes as they watch all their friends head home to see family and friends or to vacation spots to have fun, while they stay in Fort Worth on an empty campus to play baseball in front of small crowds. While they love baseball, I think all of us would rather be on a beach somewhere.

This season, the opponent that comes to town during Spring Break is Texas Tech. In recent years, Texas Tech has not been a great squad, but they are improving. Regardless, the Red Raiders are a former Southwest Conference foe that assumes they are better than us by virtue of being in the Big XII. Furthermore, with it being a weekend series they are likely to bring a good amount of their own fans to watch them play.

I am writing this because I want Frog fans to pack the stands and make it an electric atmosphere like it was for the Fort Worth Regional last season. That means tailgating before games, filling the stadium, clapping with 2 strikes and cheering when men are in scoring position. The beauty of college sports is the energy students bring to competition, but for one weekend alumni and fans alike need to step up and replace the students. We need to do this not only because Texas Tech is coming to town, but because our top 10 ranked baseball team deserves it.

I would love to see our fans make a habit of tailgating every Saturday and treating baseball much like they do football, but for now, I am pleading that we make it that way for this one weekend.

So if you do not normally attend TCU baseball games or have never attended a baseball game, come out to Lupton March 12-14. If you normally come to games, bring a friend or two. If we can find a way to get groups like the Lettermen's Association, the Frog Club, the Purple People Seaters, the TCU Ambulance and the Alumni Association to make a push to get people out there and TCU sports sites like Spit Blood, Purple Menace, and Killer Frogs can get the word out, we can make this happen.

Feel free to forward this on because I really want to make this happen. And if any of you reading this have any ideas that can aid us in making this happen or could provide more of an incentive to get people to the game, feel free to e-mail me at David@HornedFrogSports.com.

Lets make this happen and show why TCU and our fan base is so great.

Sincerely,

David Peterson
