Team of the Week – New Mexico (3-2 Overall) – After splitting two games at in-state rival New Mexico State, the Lobos went to Los Angeles and took two of three against Southern Cal. These were series that New Mexico was losing last year.
Disappointing Team of the Week – Utah (1-3 Overall) – After a 4 game series sweep at Sam Houston State, Utah ran into a buzz saw in Washington State, as they only scored 11 runs in four games while hitting .218. Utah did happen to give the Cougars their first loss of the season on Sunday. Utah continues on their season-opening road trip this weekend in Oregon, with two games against both Oregon State and Portland.
Players of the Week – Bryan Holaday (TCU) – Holaday collected at least two hits in every game last week on the way to a .588 BA. He drove in four runs while scoring three. Justin Howard (New Mexico) – Howard hit .565 for the week, driving in seven runs while scoring seven. He ended the week with a 5 for 6 performance with 5 RBI.
Pitchers of the Week – Bryan Crabb (SDSU) – Crabb pitched seven innings of one-hit baseball against Monmouth. He gave up no runs, walking three while striking out seven, as the Aztecs won 7-0. Crabb improved to 1-1 on the season, while lowering his ERA to 1.72. Rick Anton (Utah)– Anton led the Utes to a 4-1 victory over then undefeated Washington State. He pitched seven innings, giving up four hits, one run, one walk, while striking out nine. Anton improved to 2-1 on the season, and has struck out 16 batters while walking just two.

Quick Take – Offense is not a problem for the Falcons, as they hit .381 last week with seven home runs. Five of their everyday starters hit at least .409 last week. They were led by Addison Gentry and Matt Alexander, who combined to hit .462, hitting seven home runs and driving in 17 runs. The pitching staff had a 12.20 ERA while allowing opposing batters to hit .406 off of them. They allowed 10 hits in every game.

Quick Take – BYU will play their first home games this weekend after going 4-7 on the road to start the season. Brandon Relf led the Cougars with a .409 BA last week, driving in four runs. He is hitting .400 for the season, as BYU is hitting .299 as a team. They are striking out a little over eight times a game. The pitching staff let batters hit .363 off of them last week. The team ERA through 11 games is 6.95. Their fielding percentage is .957.

Quick Take – New Mexico got their second big road series win of the young season last week, as they took two of three against Southern Cal. The Lobos hit close to their season average last week in five games. Rudy Jaramillo pitched a great game on Friday, going eight innings, giving up five hits and two runs.

Quick Take – The Horned Frogs missed out on an opportunity to go undefeated for the week, as they came back and took the lead on Rice, only to lose in the 9th. Against some solid pitchers, they hit .374 for the week. Aaron Schultz has stepped in well for Jantzen Witte, hitting .421 last week, raising his season average to .367. The pitching staff had a 4.46 ERA. The starters had a 3.06 ERA in the Houston College Classic. The defense is getting better, as the team fielding percentage is .970.

Quick Take – Last year, it took the 14th game for UNLV to pick up a road victory. This year, it took them one. The Rebels are hitting .334 for the season. RJ Arnold hit .429, driving in eight runs. The bullpen was good last week, having a 3.52 ERA with batters hitting .245 off of them.

Quick Take – For the season, Utah is hitting just .259, with only three regulars hitting over .256. As a team, they have just a .706 OPS. They had two regulars that hit over .300 last week, and not one over .333. Anton was the only starter to make it out of 5th inning. The staff has a 4.12 ERA this season.
