I just got back from the Coach Jim Schlossnagle Show at Los Vaqueros. Here are some of the highlights.
• Kyle Winkler will be starting the Regional-opening game against Lamar. Coach stated that since all three (Steven Maxwell, Matt Purke, and Kyle Winkler) are rested, he was able to change his rotation to find the best match-ups. He did not commit to Purke starting game two, but I think that was implied.
• Jerome Pena should be ready to start on Friday. The issue will be how he feels after he plays. He was able to start last Wednesday, but woke up sore on Thursday.
• The players that spoke were Taylor Featherston, Bryan Holaday, Steven Maxwell, Matt Purke, and Kyle Winkler. The pitchers were more business-like, while the hitters joked around more.
• Other players in the crowd that I recognized were Kaleb Merck and Jerome Pena.
• Lettermen Austin Adams and Shawn Ferguson were in the house.
• I would say there was about 75-100 people in attendance, a decent showing for a Tuesday night.
• Amanda Mazey was in the audience shooting some film for Reaching the Peak for The mtn.
• Coach spoke highly of our defense, especially the improvement of Taylor Featherston at SS.
• He mentioned how greatly missed Tyler Lockwood will be when this season finally comes to an end. Lockwood has been a go-to player all year for the Frogs.
• In response to a comment about the other teams wanting to run, Coach Schlossnagle said "Bring It."
• Coach talked about how tough it is sometimes to fill out the lineup card with the talent we have, but the players ultimately decide who plays based on their performance.
• Athletic Director Chris Del Conte was sporting his "Miami Vice" look tonight.
• Coach talked about future non-conference schedules. He said that next year, we will open the season with a series at home against Kansas. We will also play series at home against Cal State Fullerton and Houston. We will go on the road for series against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
• We will be playing Fullerton in the foreseeable future.
• We start a home and home series in 2012 with Ole Miss, starting at Lupton.
• While not mentioning specific teams, he did say that the 2013 non-conference weekend schedule was already completed. Two of the teams will be Fullerton and Ole Miss.
• Last, but not least, he wanted to thank the fans for their support all season. He expects more enthusiasm this weekend, and hopefully much longer.
